First thing that you must know in home remodeling is the chief reason of the makeover. There are homeowners who want to undergo home remodeling due to various reasons such as the need for home expansion, modernization, to increase home value and additional home decor for a better interior. Identifying the reason is very important in order to facilitate a smooth sailing plan for renovation. Having a single and attainable goal would be a better guide for you and to the contractor as well.

Next thing to be determined in home makeover is the type of remodeling. We all know that our home is composed of several areas with different functions and purposes. Not all homeowners can afford to have a total home makeover. Some do a makeover to a particular area in their home that will fit to their budget. Best example is the kitchen remodeling. Since kitchen serves as the busiest and most important area of the house, most homeowners do kitchen renovation only. Aside from maintaining an affordable cost, you will maintain the most important area of your house which is the kitchen updated. Another example is the bedroom remodeling. This is the part of our home where you can relax most with privacy and calm environment. It is more relaxing if your room is beautiful and organized. From a tiring workload at the office, it is best to rest in the bedroom and lie down peacefully. Attractive wall paper with the latest design can make a total change to your room s appearance. For better choices, you can consult an expert. There are also latest updates online for bedroom designs. Do store hopping for more choices or a lot of research for you to find the most appropriate design that is according to your personal taste. Though home remodeling is a tedious process, everybody still undergo this process in order to make them feel great living a home that is trendy and has the latest style and designs.

Elderly man in Scotland dies after contracting H1N1 swine flu virus

Tuesday, November 3, 2009

An elderly man in Scotland has died after contacting the H1N1 virus, or swine flu. The Scottish Government made the confirmation of the information on Monday.

The victim is said to have been suffering from underlying health problems. He came from the NHS Fife area. With the death of this victim, the number of deaths that have occurred in Scotland from the virus has now reached 30.

Nicola Sturgeon, the Scottish Health Secretary, made a statement about the incident, and encouraged eligible persons to receive antiviral vaccines. “My deepest sympathy goes to the patient’s loved ones at this sad time,” she said.

“H1N1 can be devastating in a small number of cases but fortunately the vast majority of people only suffer fairly mild symptoms and make a full recovery. However, we must all remain vigilant and I would underline the importance of maintaining hygiene standards and urgently seeking medical advice if you believe you are at greater risk of influenza complications.”

Manmohan Singh threatened on e-mail

Friday, October 27, 2006

The Kerala police have received an email threatening Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his trip to the state. Singh is scheduled to visit Kerala on November 1 to mark the Golden Jubilee of the state’s formation.

Three persons have been taken into custody by the Kerala police after an e-mail was received by the Prime Minister’s Office from a cyber cafe in Kochi. This includes two boys who were using the cyber cafe between 9 and 9.30 on Friday morning and the woman owner of the cafe.

Top police sources said the message was sent to Director General of Police Raman Srivastava and the Home Secretary Sri Prakash Jaiswal. Taking serious note of the e-mail, Kerala police are interrogating the accused persons suspecting they had played a prank.

After this incident, the authorities are on high alert. This threat can have serious connotations considering the arrest of 2 Al-badr militants from down south.

Sources said, according to a senior official of Prime minister’s office, “As of now there is no change in the prime minister’s trip but his security is being constantly under review and a decision could be taken keeping in the mind threat perception”.

The Detailed Procedure Of Credit Card Processing

By Joe R. Maldonado

Since more and more people are paying for their purchases with a credit card, there has been a lot more attention being focused toward credit card processing. Through this system, business owners have the ability to receive payment from customers in a way that is much easier and faster. Credit card transactions offer consumers a way to make a transaction in a way that is safe and secure for everyone involved. With the use of a credit card, there is not as much risk for having to deal with issues like theft or scams. Additionally, customers enjoy the benefit of not having to carry around large amounts of cash for purchases.

In the beginning, the whole process of using credit cards was fairly simple. There were not very many choices offered in the way of credit card purchasing. However, since then there have been several credit card companies that have become available to consumers. Now there are significantly more services that may come along with credit cards and the whole process has gotten much more complex. For this reason, there are many new systems that have been put in place to make credit card processing much more secure, safe and simple. The newer systems have enabled a great deal of businesses to offer their products for sale to consumers and get immediate payment through credit cards.

The whole process is actually very simple to the customer. In the event that they want to purchase something from an establishment that accepts credit cards as a form of payment, all the customer has to do is swipe their card. This is done with a machine that has the ability to easily read the credit card information. At this point, the amount required for payment gets taken from the customer’s account. In order to confirm the purchase, the customer has to give their signature on a credit card slip.

It is a little more complicated on the other side of the transaction. Once the card is swiped, the machine will then start reading the language of the card. Then the information gets sent electronically to the credit card company, and there is an attached request for the authorization of the particular amount of money required to be taken from the account of the consumer.

Then a link is established with the specific network and the request gets transferred to the issuer’s network. Then once there has been verification of the customer’s details and account number, there will be confirmation regarding whether or not there is enough money in the account to complete the transaction.

The customer’s account gets a hold placed on it for the exact amount required, and their available balance changes. Once the network has gotten approval, they send it to the terminal where the customer is attempting to make a purchase.

Once the business day has ended, the merchant sends a message to the network to finally secure the funds for all of the transactions that have occurred throughout the day.

This is not necessarily the full and complete details regarding credit card processing, as there are actually quite a few details and software applications involved, but this is a basic guideline.

Commonwealth Bank of Australia CEO apologies for financial planning scandal

Thursday, July 3, 2014

Ian Narev, the CEO of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, this morning “unreservedly” apologised to clients who lost money in a scandal involving the bank’s financial planning services arm.

Last week, a Senate enquiry found financial advisers from the Commonwealth Bank had made high-risk investments of clients’ money without the clients’ permission, resulting in hundreds of millions of dollars lost. The Senate enquiry called for a Royal Commission into the bank, and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC).

Mr Narev stated the bank’s performance in providing financial advice was “unacceptable”, and the bank was launching a scheme to compensate clients who lost money due to the planners’ actions.

In a statement Mr Narev said, “Poor advice provided by some of our advisers between 2003 and 2012 caused financial loss and distress and I am truly sorry for that. […] There have been changes in management, structure and culture. We have also invested in new systems, implemented new processes, enhanced adviser supervision and improved training.”

An investigation by Fairfax Media instigated the Senate inquiry into the Commonwealth Bank’s financial planning division and ASIC.

Whistleblower Jeff Morris, who reported the misconduct of the bank to ASIC six years ago, said in an article for The Sydney Morning Herald that neither the bank nor ASIC should be in control of the compensation program.

US stock markets reach 12-year lows

Thursday, March 5, 2009

US stock markets dropped to twelve-year lows on Thursday, amidst falling confidence in the financial sector and worries over whether the US automobile manufacturer General Motors will be able to keep operating.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped by 4.08%, or 280.52 points, at the closing bell, reaching a level of 6595.32, a new 12-year low. The Nasdaq Composite lost 54.15 points, or 4%, to 1299.59, while the Standard & Poor’s 500 plunged by 30.27 points, or 4.25%, closing at 682.60.

Every stock in the Dow Jones, other than Wal-Mart, either lost ground or remained even, and all stocks in the S&P 500 index lost ground.

General Motors’ shares lost 15.5% after the auto firm announced that its auditors had “substantial doubt” over whether it would be able to keep operating.

Shares of financial companies were lower by nine percent, with Bank of America losing 11.7% and Citigroup falling by 9.7%.

“What’s most worrisome is that we haven’t hit the crescendo yet,” said Bill Groeneveld, the head trader for vFinance Investments. “Asset-management divisions are getting calls to just liquidate everything, and we haven’t seen the big players come back in at all.”

“This is one of the worst bear markets in the last 100 years; it started out with the credit crisis and the subprime [loans], but it is like a forest fire that has raced across the clearing and ignited other parts: Autos, auto parts, the insurance companies have been hit very hard. The credit crisis is causing an unraveling of industry after industry because the banks don’t lend,” said David Dreman, the chief investment officer of Dreman Value Management.

European markets were also lower today, with the London’s FTSE index losing 3.2% and the DAX index of Germany falling by five percent.
